About the Missouri Foxtrotter
If you are not familiar with Missouri Foxtrotters, then you're missing out on one of the best versatile breeds to own, ride or breed.
They are more gentle than any other gaited breed, prettier to look at, smoother to ride and very easy to train. They are intelligent, inquisitive and most often demonstrate a respectful relationship with their owner.
They do not require special shoes or long shanked bits.
Missouri Foxtrotters come in all colors and sizes from pony size to 16 hands.
Correctly bred, their natural gaits are a "get down the road" four beat flat foot walk, a foxtrot ( a broken diag. trot) which means they travel square (no pace) with three feet on the ground at all times at approximately 4 to 5 miles per hour, and a soft easy riding canter.
The feel in the saddle is a slight forward/backward motion - no hard bouncing up and down motion. Riders sit down in the saddle - no posting required. You can ride a Foxtrotter for hours at a time, get off and still feel like you can walk and have no pain in your knees or back.
Foxtrotters are routinly used on ranches to work cattle, ride the fence line and wait patiently for their rider to doctor cattle or mend fence. Many Foxtrotters are regularly competing and winning in NATRC rides. Those rides consist of a controlled speed of about 4 miles per hour (Novice division) over approximately 28 miles the first day and approximately 24 miles the second day. NATRC is a partnership between horse and rider.
End of the Trail Foxtrotter Ranch has worked deligently over the years to offer stock that carry Zane Grey, Golden Governor, Toddy's Perfection, Golden Emperor, Hawkeye's Black Sambo and Poole's Blue Boy in their pedigrees. All of our horses have been DNA'd and foals produced since 2005 are Gold Papered which means they are parentage verified.
